I long for the days when men were expected to wear a hat when they went out; only thing is, I live in Miami and even in the 1930s men wore lighter-weight hats because it's just too hot here most of the year for a fedora! Oh, well...
In the old days in Portugal you couldn't step out of the house without a hat on, men or women, even if you were just crossing to the other side of the street for a cup of coffee.
