From the Punch:
The lady, to her new cook, who sent to the dinner table a meal that was inedible: Do you have any experience in the kitchen?
The cook: No, mam.
The Lady: Then why did you come to work here?
The cook: You know mam, it's just that I'm about to be married and my fiance thought I should practice for a while.

I'm going out this afternoon, I'm leaving the keys under this vase, in case you come home sooner than me.
Well, just mind don't you forget.
Just as I expected. The key isn't here! She went out and forgot all about it, that's women for you!
But how will I get in the house, now?
That window appears to be closed. I'll see if I get in through there.
But when you saw the key wasn't there, why didn't you knock on the door? I've been home for ages!
