Demêtre Chiparus, "Les Girls" c.1930

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

If you like Art Deco and you're in the city of Porto (Portugal) be sure not to miss the Berardo Collection in the Serralves Foundation, until the 18th of June of 2006. One of the works displayed is this statuette by Romanian artist Demêtre Chiparus. I find his work very good and very, very creepy.

Bellow you see a scan of "Les Girls", bronze and ivory, c.1930, by the same artist;. Taken from the book "Art Deco 1910-1939" edited by Charlotte Benton, Tim Benton and Chislaine Wood.

Mariana,
I hope you got along to this exhibition. I saw a lot of Chiparus stuff at an exhibition in 2003 including one of only 2 Les Girls that are known to exist and then was lucky enough to see the other one ... at the V&A Art Deco exhibition which is covered in the Benton, Benton & Wood book.

Amazing statues.

Hi, David. If I well recall I was sick at the time, but I saw lovely pictures of the exhibit.
